$20 bn Credit score Line to Argentina?

Why? Is Argentina central to US nationwide safety or financial pursuits?

This Bloomberg article doesn’t clarify the financial reasoning. And until there’s going to be some conditionality relating to the (overvalued) pegged charge on the Argentine foreign money (as Mark Sobel famous in NYT), then it’s going to be wasted cash.

And shouldn’t we be coordinating with the IMF re: conditionality and so on.?

Personally, I noticed much more purpose to help Mexico in 1994 utilizing the Alternate Stabilization Fund (ESF), than Argentina in 2025. Mexico had collateral. What does Argentina have? I’ll wait to see if the critics of the 1994 use of the ESF converse up now (at the very least, those that are nonetheless alive).
